The Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa Subclass 400 currently costs $310 except in very limited circumstances. This visa allows you to work in highly specialised fields that is not available in Australia whereby the work activity must NOT be ongoing. You cannot extend this visa or apply from within Australia.

WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO

The Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist Visa) Subclass 400  allows you to work in a highly specialised job in Australia and bring your family members to Australia. They cannot work while here except to do language training programs. You will need to have a contract or letter of offer. You cannot stay longer than 6 months in Australia on this visa type.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE TEMPORARY WORK (SHORT STAY SPECIALIST VISA SUBCLASS 400)

 

To be eligible for the Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa Subclass 400, you will need to:

  • Have highly specialised skills, knowledge and experience that can assist Australian business, cannot reasonably be found in the Australian labour market, will be non-ongoing (completed in 6 months or less). You will need to show that you have the skills, knowledge or experience to do this work including: a copy of your resume, licenses or qualifications that you have, a letter from your overseas employer outlining your position and duties and typically, the Australian business will need to be able to show they have tried to find Australians to fill this role.

  • Have work NOT in the Australian entertainment industry. However you can apply for the Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa Subclass 400 to direct, produce or have another production role in a production that will NOT be shown in Australia or otherwise you can come to Australia for a promotional activity such as; Actor visiting for Red carpet premiere, rock band tour but no performance etc. If you are performing as an entertainer or in any way participating in a production that will be show, broadcast or performed in Australia, then you will need to apply for the Temporary Activities Visa (Entertainment) Subclass 408.

  • Be able to financially support yourself and independents.

  • Meet all necessary health requirements.

  • Meet character requirements.

  • Be a genuine visitor (have the intention to leave)

  • Not have any outstanding debts to the Australian government.

  • Not have had any visa cancelled or refused.
