Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

ABOUT THIS VISA

The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) is a temporary visa for young adults who want an extended holiday in Australia and to work here to fund it. From July 1, 2019, Working Holiday Visa holders who carry out work for 6 months in specified regional areas of Australia while on their second Working Holiday (Subclass 417 or 462) may be eligible to apply for a 3rd working holiday visa.

The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) currently costs between $485 to apply for for the first, second or third Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO

The   lets you stay in Australia for up to 12 months and allows you to do short term work in Australia to help pay for your holiday, study for up to 4 months, travel to and from Australia as many times as you like. You can apply for a 2nd and third Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) if you meet the specified work requirements.

1st WORKING HOLIDAY

 

1st WORKING HOLIDAY

 

The first working holiday allows you to lets you stay in Australia for up to 12 months and allows you to do short term work in Australia to help pay for your holiday, study for up to 4 months, travel to and from Australia as many times as you like, and if you do specified work you may be eligible for a 2nd or 3rd working holiday visa.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE 1st WORKING HOLIDAY

 

To be eligible for the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) 1st holiday , you will need to:

  • Have a passport from: Argentina, Austria, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Peru, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, Uruguay, United States of America, Vietnam.

  • Be aged between 18 - 31.

  • Not have previously entered Australia on a subclass 417 or 462 visa.

  • Meet the education requirement. Details can be found HERE.

  • Have at least FUNCTIONAL English by either: Holding a passport from - United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland, OR alternatively completed the Australian Adult Migrant English Program, OR Alternatively scored at least 4.5 on the IELTS or equivalent OR Alternatively have completed schooling as detailed HERE.

  • Have a Government letter of support if you are from: Ecuador, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Peru, Poland, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Thialand, Turkey, Uruguay, Vietnam, Malaysian citizens must provide a good conduct certificate, Letter of introduction from tertiary education institutions if you are from the Czech Republic.

  • Have sufficient funds (usually around $5000AUD plus return air fare).

  • Meet necessary health requirements

  • Meet necessary character requirements

  • Have no outstanding debts to the Australian government.

  • Sign the Australian Values Statement

  • Not have previously had a visa refused or cancelled for Australia.

2nd WORK AND HOLIDAY VISA

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE 2nd WORK AND HOLIDAY VISA

 

To meet the requirements for the 2nd Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462), the same as the above applies for the 1st Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) with the exception that you do "specified work" for at least 3 months on your 1st working holiday visa. Specified work includes:

  • plant and animal cultivation

  • fishing and pearling

  • tree farming and felling

  • mining

  • construction

Specified work is any type of work described in the list below:

  • plant and animal cultivation

    • the harvesting and/or packing of fruit and vegetable crops

    • pruning and trimming vines and trees
      Note: This must be your primary employment task and directly associated with the cultivation and commercial sale of plant produce, such as fruit and nut crops (commercial horticultural activities). General garden maintenance is not eligible.

    • general maintenance crop work

    • cultivating or propagating plants, fungi or their products or parts

    • immediate processing of plant products

    • maintaining animals for the purpose of selling them or their bodily produce, including natural increase
      Note: Maintaining animals for tourism or recreational purposes is not eligible.

    • immediate processing of animal products including shearing, butchery, packing and tanning
      Note: Secondary processing of animal products, such as small goods processing and retail butchery is not eligible.

    • manufacturing dairy produce from raw material.

  • fishing and pearling

    • conducting operations relating directly to taking or catching fish and other aquatic species

    • conducting operations relating directly to taking or culturing pearls or pearl shell

  • tree farming and felling

    • planting or tending trees in a plantation or forest that are intended to be felled

    • felling trees in a plantation or forest

    • transporting trees or parts of trees that were felled in a plantation or forest to the place where they are to be milled

  • mining

    • coal mining

    • oil and gas extraction

    • metal ore mining

    • construction material mining

    • non-metallic mineral mining and quarrying exploration

    • mining support services

  • construction

    • residential building construction

    • non-residential building construction

    • heavy and civil engineering construction

    • land development and site preparation services

    • building structure services

    • building installation services

    • building completion services

    • other construction services

Work undertaken in the areas of plant and animal cultivation, fishing and pearling, and tree farming and felling must be described in the list above to meet the specified.

3rd WORK AND HOLIDAY VISA

 

To be eligible for the 3rd Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462), you will need to undertake at least 6 months paid work in the above sectors from 01 July 2019 on your 2nd Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) visa.

The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) visa needs to be done right first time and to avoid unnecessary delay, use a registered migration agent Mark Pelley - Principal Migration Agent for Visas To Australia. The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) requires substantial documentation to support claims made in the application. This process can be lengthy and confusing.
