Bridging Visas

Bridging Visa A

(Subclass 010)

This temporary visa generally allows you to stay in Australia after your current substantive visa ceases and while your new substantive visa application is being processed. You are not allowed to leave Australia or your Bridging Visa will cease to be in effect.

Bridging Visa B

(Subclass 020)

The Bridging Visa B allows you to leave and return to Australia once on this visa while your application for a substantive visa is being processed.

Bridging Visa C

(Subclass 030)

This visa may be granted if you apply for a substantive visa and do not hold a current substantive visa.

Bridging Visa E

(Subclass 050 & 051)

This visa lets you stay lawfully in Australia while you make arrangements to leave, finalise your immigration matter or wait for an immigration decision. The subclass 051 visa is for people who are seeking a protection visa.

Other Short Term Visas

Medical Treatment Visa

(Subclass 602)

This temporary visa is for people to travel to or remain longer in Australia for medical treatment or to support someone needing medical treatment who holds or has applied for this visa. It is also for people who are donating an organ.

Special Purpose Visa

This visa lets you come to Australia and do your normal work. You can't apply for this visa. It is granted to people who have 'prescribed status'. The Minister can also declare that someone holds a Special Purpose visa.

Other Long Term Visas

Special Category Visa

(Subclass 444)

This temporary visa allows you to visit, study, stay and work as long as you remain a New Zealand citizen. It is applied for when you arrive in Australia submit your completed incoming passenger card with your New Zealand passport.

Former Resident Visa (Subclass 151)

This permanent visa allows former permanent residents and certain people who served in the Australian Defence Force to live in Australia.

Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 & 157)

If you leave Australia after your travel validity expires, or it expires when you are outside Australia, you will not be able to return to Australia as a permanent resident. This visa allows you to return as a permanent resident. You cannot include your family in the application.

Distinguished Talent Visa

Offshore (Subclass 124)

This is the OFFSHORE permanent visa for people with a history of excellence in an eligible field. You must have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement (and still be prominent) in a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research. You can be in or outside Australia when you apply however must be OUTSIDE Australia when it is granted.

Distinguished Talent Visa

Onshore (Subclass 858)

This is the ONSHORE permanent visa for people already in Australia with a history of excellence in an eligible field. You must have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement (and still be prominent) in a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research
